I grew up in a rural resort and farming area in Upstate New York. There I began my education in a one-room schoolhouse. I did my undergraduate work in New Hampshire and in Delaware, then moved to Los Angeles for my graduate studies. I have been doing psychotherapy as a licensed clinical social worker since 1977. After working for five years in mental health clinics in South Central Los Angeles, I went into private practice full time in 1980. In 1987, I came to Seattle where I became a mother, stepmother and step-grandmother.

My work is from a Gestalt perspective, set in an "I-Thou" relationship, and exploring the questions "What?" and "How?" more than the question "Why?".
I enjoy discovering each client’s uniqueness as we work together to facilitate each person becoming fully who they are, able to bring their gifts into the world, developing "creative response-ability" and a nurturing self.
Issues that I work with include depression, relationship issues, trauma, anxiety, and chronic illness including HIV/AIDS. My interests in undoing racism, spirituality, and diversity inform my work.
I like to work with children and adolescents, as well as with adults. My work with children and adolescents is influenced by my many years of work and study with Violet Oaklander, Ph. D., author of Windows to Our Children and Hidden Treasure. I am the author of three audiotapes for parents and professionals:
- "Healing the Sexually Abused Child"
- "Narcissistic Disturbances in Children and Adolescents"
- "When Do Children and Adolescents Need Therapy?"
All are produced by Max Sound Educational Tape Division (http://webpages.charter.net/maxsound/msaudios.html)
In addition to my clinical work, I've led workshops for parents and professionals and have been a field instructor and a consultant. |
