MY PHILOSOPHY | BACKGROUND

I’m a psychotherapist, (Licensed Social Worker) in practice for over 20 years.  I work with people with depression, anxiety, adult attention deficit disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, relationship and parenting issues, career and transitional issues (divorce, death, kids moving out, job changes). I also am Program Director at Centerpoint – an organization for career and life renewal.

Catherine Follett

The foundation of my work is Mindfulness – using mindfulness to interrupt psychological and neurological patterns – and then working with and beyond those patterns to heal through methods of cognitive behavioral work, somatic work (using the body to release blocks and to glean wisdom and direction), psychodynamic principles, developing and expanding consciousness (proven to be healing to the brain) – and attending intentionally to the vision(s) in our lives.  It’s always a challenge to describe briefly what one does in psychotherapy – but those are some of the main things.

I specialize in working with adults who are creative, highly sensitive, and/or gifted, including dancers, musicians, artists, photographers, teachers, healers (massage therapists, therapists, clergy) who are depressed, anxious and overwhelmed – have relationship issues – or are blocked in some way in their creative expression.

Creative, gifted, and highly sensitive people have specific vulnerabilities in their brain and are vulnerable to mental health difficulties.  My passion is to educate them about their brain, coach them in taking care of this exquisite mind, body, spirit – and get them back in the world at full capacity in their lives.  When we are fully expressing our best, we are also contributing to and healing our part of the world by expressing our own unique talents.

I hold a deep conviction that each of us is a treasure to behold – and a treasure to contribute to the world.  My clients feel my recognition of them – and over time begin to recognize the magnificence of themselves – and learn how to fully take care of and express this magnificence in their relationships, work life, and elsewhere.

I provide a 30-minute free consultation so you can sense whether I’ll be a good fit for you. A good connection is essential in any healing or growth-centered relationship.
