I was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii and after my medical technology schooling in Seattle, spent 8 years as a researcher and project manager for the National Institute of Health - Artificial Heart Research Program. I later spent time in the corporate world and then while completing my MBA, I re-evaluated my life's course and decided to return to health care.
While working out and weight training, I treated myself to a massage.... and learned the value of touch, which led me to pursuing a degree and certification as a massage therapist. As a "puzzle junky" I was drawn to specialize in therapeutic massage, which helps return the body to balance with optimal range of motion and skeletal alignment.
My goal in treatment is to determine the source of the problem, incorporate various modalities as needed depending on the client and condition, and educate the client to promote their active participation.
Some of the tools in my "modality tool box" are: myofascial release, deep tissue, neuro-muscular and positional release, muscle energy, trigger point, cranio-sacral, strain-counterstrain and polarity.
Incorporating the Aikido approach, I try to work with the body, not against it. My intention is to help the body heal itself, so my clients need only an occasional tune-up. I also guide my clients toward understanding how to prevent recurrence and further problems.
